More Girls Trip to Shanghai

Day 2

semi-overcast 40 °F

After the first night at the hostel I came to the conclusion that I really like staying in hostels. They make traveling very easy and there tend to be pretty interesting people in your mix. The Mingtown hostel is clean and very traditionally decorated with an open floor plan and goldfish ponds. We reserved a 6 bedroom mixed dorm even though their were only 4 of us and though I was upset with these arrangements at first, it turned out ok since our other two roommates were Chinese guys that spoke English and were never really in the room. However the rooms were FREEZING at night and we mine as well have slept outside. I wore all of my clothes and my coat to bed.

On the second day I woke up at 10:30am to children playing outside. I went down to breakfast and had my usual and then got ready for the Shanghai Museum.
It was AMAZING with 7 floors and 6 featured exhibits. My favorite exhibit was the Catherine the Great: Star of the North and Golden Age of Russian Empire exhibit because of the ornate place settings (ex. Silver platter for 5 different types of SALT!) and the depiction of royalty life in those times. The Chinese Minority Nationalities Art exhibit was pretty cool too because I did not realize how diverse China was. There are actually 96 different ethnic groups in China and every group has their own language, way of dressing and set of customs.

After the museum we got massages at the famous Dragonfly Massage Parlor. The space was many stories with a gift shop on the first floor and a pretty cool “menu” of services. They had really cute names (ex. Hang Over Massage) and I chose the 120 minute full body plus foot massage for 290 rmb or $41 which is pretty expensive for China but hey, it was Dragonfly. They gave us very cute traditional wrap outfits to change in too and the rooms were absolutely beautiful (definitely worth the money)!
When I finished my massage I saw that I had missed 3 calls from Kevin, the Chinese guy that I met the night before on my way back to the hostel. I called him back and we made plans to met at my hostel for dinner and clubbing.

At 8:00pm I went to the lobby to meet Kevin and brought Melissa and Blair with me. We took forever to settle on a place to eat but ended up going to some random Chinese restaurant that Kevin liked. It was editable but I definitely would not go again. At around 11:00pm we went to Club 88 which was similar to the clubs in Nanjing just had more foreigners and better looking people overall. I stayed for about an hour and a half and left the girls to go back home and write in my journal. I don’t know why but I just did not feel like partying much.

Tomorrow is the Wax Museum!
